Personal Goals for the Semester

What a semester this has been! Not only have I learned about so many new technologies that I can use in my classroom, but I have had the opportunity to engage in some new technologies in my personal life as well. Below you will find each of the goals I set for myself and how well, or no so well, these went for me!

Goal #1: Make videos for each of the classes I teach

At the beginning of the semester the counselors at Hudsonville High School came to the teachers and asked them to develop videos for their classes. The purpose of these videos were to put them on the website so that students were able to watch them to find out what the class was all about so that they knew what classes to register for.

This was a daunting task for me! I don't have much (if any) experience with video editing software. After a less than successful attempt at using iMovie, I decided to do a simple Quicktime video. Using the "New Screen Recording" feature, I was able to talk my way through a Google Slide that I had made. While this is not as tech savvy as I would have liked it to be, I was pretty proud that I was able to get done what I could (and without any tears! haha). Here is one of the four videos I made!

It's definitely not the fancy video I envisioned, but it got the job done!

Goal #2: Design a classroom website

This is something I have wanted to do for years, but again I found to be a daunting task. I decided that I would work on using Google Sites to build the website since our school uses the Google Suite and my classes use Google Classroom. While the framework for the website is there, it is definitely lacking content. I got somewhat overwhelmed by trying to attack this goal. I published it for purposes of this class, but it is definitely not ready to be something to share with students. This is a working document that is now on the list of things I want to work on this summer. Here is the link to my page: https://sites.google.com/hpseagles.net/ms-lanphears-classroom-page/home

Goal #3: Take pictures from my phone and print them for my house.

This is yet another goal that I have had for years! I have a friend who has printed so many of her Instagram pictures to place on her refrigerator. Every time I am at her house my jealousy soars! Thanks to this class, and having to set some technology goals, there are not pictures headed my way! While I don't have them yet to show you, I can talk to you about the app I used.

After a lot of reviews and some tests of different apps, I settled on Print Studio. It seemed the easiest and had pretty low prices. I also likes that I could print cute little square pictures out that I could either put on my fridge, or put in a collage in a frame. On this app I could get 48 mini pictures for just $15! It also let me crop and edit my pictures before I put in my order. I cannot wait to get my prints and find where to put them!! Below I have included some screenshots of the app.

Thanks BK for pushing us to not only look at what we are doing in our classroom, but to think about our personal life and how technology can be used there as well! :)
